October 01: A meuseum was inaugurated at the Dodedra Shedra in Thimphu yesterday. The shedra is located about three hours walking distance from the Samtenling roadhead.
The museum was inaugurated by the Venerable Drabi Lopen of the Zhung Dratshang and the Director of Dratshang Lhentshog Karma Penjor.
Speaking to BBS the Principal of Dodedra Shedra Khenpo Sangay Dorji said the museum is a tribute to the monarchs of the kingdom and is to celebrate the coronation of His Majesty the King.
He said the museum showcases the vocational skills of the students and the traditional heritage of the kingdom.
Also on display at the five room museum are different kinds of tormas used for various rituals, the attires of the 27th Je Khenpo Pema Zangpo and Zhabdrung Jigme Drakpa and various instruments used in performing rituals.
Visitors can also look at various kinds of mandalas including Ray-di Kilkhor or Mandela painted on cloth and Duel Shuen Gi Kilkhor or the sand mandala.
The shedra received an amount of hundred thousand from the Dratshang Lhentshog for setting up the museum. Dodedrak is the seat of 13th Je Khenpo Yonten Thaye. It was founded in 1772.
